Is Analog Devices the Same as Maxim Integrated?

Yes—at the corporate level. Analog Devices completed its acquisition of Maxim Integrated on August 26, 2021, and legacy Maxim products now sit within ADI's portfolio. But buyers must not treat the names as interchangeable purchasing identifiers: retain the exact MAX, MAXM, DS or other MPN, suffix, package and grade, then reconcile the seller, label, lifecycle, PCN/PDN and lot-specific traceability.

One transaction contains four different identities
OwnerAnalog Devices, Inc.
HeritageMaxim Integrated / Dallas Semiconductor
PartExact MPN + suffix + package + grade
SellerLegal entity on quote and invoice

Do not collapse these fields. Corporate ownership can explain a legacy name, but only the exact orderable model and transaction evidence can identify what is being purchased.

Start with the transaction, not the logo

When Can an ADI/Maxim Name Mismatch Be Accepted?

The acquisition answers who owns the portfolio. It does not answer whether the physical stock in front of you is the exact approved, authentic and usable item. Classify the situation below before you approve a quote, modify an AVL or release payment.

Condition → recommendation → evidence required → stop boundary
Observed condition Recommendation Evidence required Stop / failure boundary
Quote says Analog Devices; factory label says Maxim Reconcile
Keep both names in separate record fields.
Exact MPN and suffix match, current ADI product page, readable label, seller identity and transaction-linked CoC or packing evidence. Stop if suffix, package, grade, quantity, lot/date or seller identity conflicts.
ADI product page links a Maxim-branded datasheet Normally valid
Treat the current official page as the control point.
Official analog.com product URL, exact model listing, current revision and lifecycle status. Hold if only an archive, broker mirror or unverified PDF is available.
Seller says “same company,” but one suffix differs Do not normalize
Correct the quote or open an engineering change.
Side-by-side orderable model data, package drawing, temperature grade, packing method and application requirements. Stop before payment when the approved and offered orderable models are not identical.
Old factory-sealed reel carries a Maxim logo Evidence review
Age and logo alone are not a verdict.
Source route, full label photos, seal condition, lot/date codes, packing, storage evidence and risk-based inspection/test plan. Stop on overlabels, inconsistent codes, unexplained rework, broken seal or missing chain of custody.
Different ADI MPN is proposed as a substitute Engineering change
Ownership does not establish interchangeability.
Datasheet delta, pin/package review, electrical and software impact, compliance evidence and approved validation plan. No build release until named engineering and quality authorities approve the change.
Seller claims to be ADI-authorized Verify live
Check the current ADI network, not a badge screenshot.
Exact legal seller entity, current official listing, quote/invoice match and stock-specific documentation. Do not describe the route as authorized if the current listing cannot be confirmed.
The shortest safe rule: company continuity can explain a name mismatch; it cannot excuse an MPN, suffix, package, grade, traceability or approval mismatch.

Corporate answer

What Does the ADI–Maxim Acquisition Mean for Buyers?

Analog Devices announced the completion of its acquisition of Maxim Integrated on August 26, 2021. Maxim's former Nasdaq symbol, MXIM, ceased trading, and the SEC filing records Maxim as the surviving merger entity and a wholly owned ADI subsidiary. That establishes the corporate relationship.

  • ADI and Maxim announced the proposed combination

The transaction began as a corporate merger proposal. It was not an instruction for buyers to rewrite every Maxim MPN or erase legacy product records.

  • Analog Devices completed the acquisition

ADI became the portfolio owner. Maxim's separate public-company listing ended, while product and documentation migration continued within ADI's systems.

  • Legacy names and orderable models remain operationally relevant

Current analog.com pages still host MAX and DS families, and ADI's package resources still distinguish “Legacy Maxim,” “Legacy ADI” and “Legacy LT/LTC/LTM” documentation.

YesADI owns the former Maxim portfolio at the corporate level.
NoThe acquisition did not automatically rename every orderable part.
NoSame corporate owner does not make two MPNs interchangeable.
It dependsA mixed ADI/Maxim document set may be valid only after item-level reconciliation.
What did not change automatically: the approved BOM, electrical limits, pinout, package geometry, packing orientation, qualification record, software behavior or your customer's change-control obligations.

Which Identity Fields Must Stay Separate?

Most confusion occurs when one “manufacturer” field is forced to carry four different meanings. Keep these identities separate so purchasing, engineering, receiving and accounts payable can reconcile the same transaction without altering source evidence.

1Corporate owner

Analog Devices, Inc. is the current portfolio owner. Use this field for corporate mapping, supplier-family reporting and current support routing.

2Product heritage

Maxim Integrated, Dallas Semiconductor or 1-Wire heritage may still explain the prefix, datasheet branding, package marking and historical approvals.

3Exact orderable model

The complete MPN—including punctuation and every suffix—controls package, grade, packing and other family-specific attributes. Never shorten it for convenience.

4Legal seller

The invoice and transaction documents must identify the actual selling entity. ADI ownership does not turn an independent seller into ADI or into an authorized distributor.

Controlled-alias practice: preserve the original supplier document unchanged, then add internal aliases that link “Maxim Integrated” heritage to “Analog Devices” ownership. Do not edit a CoC, packing slip or label image to make the names look consistent.

Documented public product examples

How Do Current ADI Pages Preserve Legacy Maxim Part Numbers?

These are public first-party examples, not YURUNOX shipment claims or customer results. They demonstrate that ADI ownership and legacy Maxim/Dallas naming can coexist on current product records.

Official example 1 · MAX31865

What Does MAX31865 Show About Suffixes?

The current ADI product page lists MAX31865AAP+, MAX31865AAP+T, MAX31865ATP+ and MAX31865ATP+T. The shared base number does not make the package and packing variants identical.

Verify the MAX31865 models on analog.com.

Official example 2 · DS18B20

What Does DS18B20 Show About Legacy Prefixes?

The current ADI page lists DS18B20 models including DS18B20+, DS18B20+PAR, DS18B20U+ and DS18B20U+T&R. “DS” heritage remains part of the orderable identity.

Verify the DS18B20 models on analog.com.

Can a Prefix Decode the Complete Orderable Model?

No. MAX, MAXM, DS, MAXQ and other legacy families can help locate the official page, but they do not define one universal suffix grammar. A plus sign, temperature letter, package code or tape-and-reel suffix must be interpreted from that family's current ordering information.

Failure boundary: if a seller drops punctuation, rearranges suffixes or substitutes a “close” model, treat the offered item as unconfirmed until the exact orderable model is restored and checked.

BOM, labels, CoC and ERP

How Should BOM, Label, CoC and Invoice Records Be Reconciled?

Which name belongs in which purchasing record?
Record What it should preserve Recommended treatment Do not do this
BOM / AVL Approved exact MPN, manufacturer record and approved revision. Add a controlled ADI/Maxim relationship note; change the approved field only through your normal authority. Bulk-replace “Maxim” with “ADI” without checking every MPN and approval.
Supplier quote Exact offered MPN, condition, quantity, source claim, date/lot claim and seller. Ask the seller to correct any shortened or transformed MPN before order placement. Accept “same as,” “ADI/Maxim” or a base number as the complete item identity.
Factory label Unedited brand, MPN, quantity, date/lot codes, country/assembly details, barcode and seal context. Store full-resolution stock-specific photos and compare fields as a set. Crop out adjacent labels or infer authenticity from logo style alone.
CoC / packing slip The original transaction-linked statements, seller, customer/PO, MPN, quantity and trace data provided. Preserve the document; add an internal reconciliation record if company names differ. Edit the supplier's certificate to match the ERP.
Invoice The actual legal seller and transaction terms. Match it to the quote, purchase order and payment beneficiary. Enter Analog Devices as the seller merely because ADI owns the portfolio.
Current technical control Official product page, datasheet revision, lifecycle and applicable PCN/PDN. Control by exact model and capture the retrieval date. Use a family-level status to overrule a model-specific notice.

Does a mixed ADI/Maxim label set indicate counterfeit parts?

Not by itself. A genuine legacy shipment can carry older Maxim branding, while a counterfeit item can carry a newer-looking ADI logo. Authenticity is a combined conclusion based on the exact MPN, marking format, date/lot consistency, packaging, chain of custody, document linkage and inspection or testing appropriate to the risk.

“Factory sealed” is a condition claim, not a provenance conclusion. A seal does not prove authorization, storage history, electrical conformity or that the contents match the label.

Authorization, lifecycle and traceability

How Should Buyers Verify the Seller, Lifecycle and Traceability?

ADI states that buying through its authorized network is one way to ensure authentic ADI products and full support. Verify the exact legal seller on the current ADI sales and distributor page. A logo on a seller website, an old certificate or a marketplace badge is not a live authorization check.

Evidence burden by supply route
Route Minimum route evidence Stock-specific evidence Risk response
ADI direct Order and invoice entity reconcile to ADI. Exact model, packing slip, quantity and assigned date/lot data. Normal receiving controls; still verify the ordered model.
Currently authorized distributor Seller's exact legal entity appears in ADI's live network. Quote, PO, invoice, packing slip/CoC and factory label align. Resolve entity or item mismatches before release.
Independent source Seller legal identity, ownership of stock, return terms and source disclosure. Full labels, packing, date/lot structure, chain of custody, storage statement and inspection/test evidence. Increase evidence and testing by consequence of escape; authorization must not be implied.
Unknown / unverifiable source None adequate. Photos or a CoC cannot repair an unknown seller and broken chain of custody by themselves. Stop Do not release on branding alone.

Why Must Lifecycle and Change Notices Be Checked by Exact Model?

ADI publishes lifecycle statuses and PCN/PDN information, but a family page can contain multiple orderable models. Capture the status of the exact model. If the model's lifecycle is unclear, ADI instructs customers to contact the company for exact-model information. A seller's “active family” statement is insufficient when a suffix is missing or a PDN may apply.

Is a Date Code the Same as Lot Traceability?

ADI's published date-code policy allows products up to five years old under stated conditions and allows mixed date codes within some packing units—up to three per reel, two per tube and three per tray stack—while maintaining lot-level traceability. Therefore “single date code” is a commercial requirement that must be agreed before ordering; it is not an automatic property of every ADI/Maxim shipment.

Request measurable terms: define the acceptable date-code window in years or weeks, maximum number of date codes per packing unit, permitted lot count, packing integrity, storage evidence and the exact label or packing-slip fields required. Reject vague terms such as “recent,” “fresh” or “new date code.”

Same owner is not same part

When Does an ADI/Maxim Difference Require Engineering Change?

A different orderable model requires engineering change control even when both models sit in the ADI portfolio. Begin with the failure mode that the change could create, then define the measurement, units, conditions, samples and pass/fail limits before collecting data.

Minimum alternate-part comparison and test framing
Risk area Method and units Conditions / samples Failure boundary
Electrical limits Compare absolute maximum, recommended operating and guaranteed electrical tables; V, A, Ω, W, °C, Hz and timing units as applicable. Use application min/nom/max supply, load and temperature, not room-temperature typical values only. Any requirement lacks guaranteed margin or exceeds a rated limit.
Pinout and package Pin-by-pin net mapping plus current package drawing; mm dimensions, pitch and thermal-pad geometry. Review the exact suffix and PCB land pattern; include assembly and inspection stakeholders. Pin function, no-connect rule, orientation, footprint or assembly process is incompatible.
Functional behavior Bench or system test of startup, shutdown, timing, interface and fault response; V, ms/µs/ns, Hz and error counts as appropriate. Test worst-case operating modes and firmware paths. Sample count must follow the claim, lot structure and consequence of escape. Any predefined functional requirement fails or an unreviewed behavior change appears.
Thermal and reliability Measure relevant case/junction proxy temperatures, power and drift; °C, W and application-specific error units. Stabilized enclosure, airflow, load and ambient conditions representative of use. Thermal margin, drift, protection or reliability objective is not demonstrated.
Compliance and release Review qualification grade, material declarations, customer specifications and change records. Use the actual production model, package, wafer/assembly route if controlled, and named approval authorities. Required document, customer approval or engineering/quality release is missing.
No universal sample count exists. A five-piece room-temperature check cannot establish every electrical, assembly, software or reliability claim. Document the sample identity, lot structure, test conditions, equipment, acceptance limit and who can release the change.

What Evidence Is Needed Before Receiving or Production Release?

Freeze the requirement

Record the complete approved MPN, suffix, package, grade, packing, quantity, date/lot needs, application and required delivery date. Name who can approve a change.

Open the official model record

Confirm the exact orderable model on analog.com. Save the product URL, current datasheet revision, lifecycle status and relevant PCN/PDN with retrieval date.

Classify the name difference

Decide whether the mismatch is corporate ownership, product heritage, label age, seller identity or a genuinely different MPN. Do not merge these categories.

Verify seller and stock

Identify the legal seller and current authorization status. Obtain uncropped stock-specific photos, exact quantity, date/lot structure, packing condition and source/ownership statement.

Reconcile transaction evidence

Match quote, PO, invoice, packing slip/CoC and label fields. Preserve originals; document controlled aliases and every unresolved exception.

Set inspection, test and acceptance

Link each test to a suspected failure mode. Define method, units, conditions, samples/lot structure, equipment, pass/fail limits and consequence of escape before testing.

Release or stop

Release payment and production only when the named commercial, quality and engineering authorities have the evidence required for this route. Stop on an unresolved exact-item or approval mismatch.

Illustrative composite scenario · not a YURUNOX customer claim

What If the Quote Says ADI but the Sealed Reel Says Maxim?

A buyer finds that the complete MPN and suffix match the AVL, the exact model remains on a current ADI page, the seller's legal entity is currently listed as authorized, and the PO, packing slip, reel label, quantity and date/lot fields reconcile. The controlled outcome is not to relabel the reel. Preserve the Maxim label, map it to ADI ownership internally and continue normal receiving controls. If the suffix or chain of custody does not match, the same scenario changes to hold or stop.
